Situated on five hectares of lushly landscaped grounds and
nestled against a backdrop of lush foliage and pristine Borneo rainforest, one
of the world's last unspoiled rainforests, is Sandakan's premier first class
hotel. Formerly known as the Renaissance Hotel (used to be owned by the
Renaissance chain), Sabah Hotel is situated on grounds of the first Governor's
House during the British colonial era.
The hotel sits on top of the hill overlooking the town of Sandakan, a small town
on the East of Borneo and former capital of North Borneo (the name Sabah was
known as before independence), which is well acknowledged as the
gateway to Borneo's wildlife as well
as the stepping-stone to the rest of Borneo.
Sabah Hotel exudes an alluring natural attraction as it blends in well with the
rich flora and fauna of Sabah. The hotel is surrounded by an array of nature's
most magnificent attractions, including tropical rainforest, the
Sepilok Orang
Utan Sanctuary/Rehabilitation Center,
Selingan Turtle Island,
Gomantong Caves
and Sukau
Kinabatangan, where you can witness Borneo's famous Proboscis Monkeys. For your
convenience, there is a nature trail just behind the hotel. The famous Agnes
Keith House is also a nearby attraction to visit.
Sandakan Airport is a 20 minute (12 km) drive away with excellent connecting air
service via Kota Kinabalu from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Hong Kong. The hotel
is perfectly located for both business and leisure guests to Sabah. This 4-star
hotel, the only “international class” hotel in the town, offers 120 spacious and
comfortable guest rooms and suites with a homely atmosphere.
Despite not categorized as a resort, one of the best facilities of Sabah Hotel
according to most guests is its delightful swimming pool. There is a children’s
pool with a slide on top of the main slide in the big pool. To top it all, you
can also relax in the jacuzzi. If swimming and relaxing by the pool is your
preference, you will love this hotel. Sunbeds are aplenty and most of them in
the shade, and drinks can be ordered to the poolside from the pool bar or snacks
from the hotel cafe.
